GANGKAR PUENSUM SOUTH EAST FACE TREK

“This trek journeys to the base of Bhutan’s highest mountain and world’s unclimbed peak Gangkar Puensum”, following what used to be an important and ancient trade route to Tibet. It also leads to a high alpine pasture land where yak herders graze their animals. The trek starts and ends in Bumthang, described as “the most spectacular valleys in Bhutan.”

DAY 01 ARRIVE PARO (by Druk Air),THIMPHU
DAY 02 THIMPHU - TRONGSA
DAY 03 TRONGSA – BUMTHANG
DAY 04 BUMTHANG – KHAKTHANG (start trek)
Distance - 16 Kms/10 miles; Time 5-6 hours Altitude: 2,898 m/9,505 ft.
DAY 05 KHAKTHANG - GOPHU
Distance - 15 Kms/10 miles; Time 5- 6 hours Altitude: 3,269m/10,722 ft.
DAY 06 GOPHU - TSAWU
Distance - 15 kms/9.5 miles; Time 5-6 hours Tsawu at 3,780 m/12,333 ft.
DAY 07 TSAWU - BAMURPA
Distance - 20 kms/12.5 miles; Time 7-8 hours Altitude: 4,430m/14,530 ft.
DAY 08 BAMURPA (rest day)
DAY 09 BAMURPA - TSAMPA
Distance – 22.5 kms/14 miles; Time 7-8 hours.
DAY 10 SAMPA – SOLANG CHU
Distance – 14 kms/8.7 miles; Time 6 hours Altitude of Solang Chu: 4,420m/14,480ft.
DAY 11 SOLANG CHU –LAMBRANG
Distance – 14.5 kms/9 miles; Time 5-6 hours Tholey La Pass (4,732m/15,520ft) Altitude of Lambrang: 4,070m/13,350ft.
DAY 12 LAMBRANG – LUNGSUM
Distance – 14 kms/8.7 miles; Time 4-5 hours Lungsum at 3,170m/10,400ft.
DAY 13 LUNGSUM – DUR (finish trek), BUMTHANG
Distance – 12 kms/7.5 miles; Time 4 hours.
DAY 14 BUMTHANG – WANGDUE
DAY 15 WANGDUE – PARO
